This guitar was hand made by Olav Loef In Bennas, Finland. He is known throughout Europe for fine custom made instruments. Each one is unique, yet easily serviced by any good luthier. He names each guitar, and this one is "Charla". You can see more of his work at his website, loefguitars.fi., or just search for "loef guitars" on the web.
This Loef is in absolutely perfect "as new" mint condition. See specs below. It has a "zero fret" neck, 1.85" in width at the nut (only 0.1" wider than most modern acoustics) and 0.87" in thickness, resulting in a total circumference of 4.75", including strings, at the first fret. My hands are 7.5" from the wrist crease to the tip of the second finger, and I can easily play a full F chord with my thumb over the top, as shown in the last photo.
The wider neck enhances playability, and the zero fret results in no tuning distortion or change in playability when using a capo. It is excellent for fingerstyle, but powerful enough for flat picking. The projection and volume are both stronger than my 1969 Martin Brazilian D-28. I am selling it because I cannot bear to part with my Martin, which I have owned for 47 years, and I have smaller wide neck Huss and Dalton which has electronics installed, which I need at times.
The OM/D designation of this one signifies an OM shape, but with a dreadnought depth. The overall body has the same volume as a dread, but with the narrower OM waist. The resulting sound is more like an OM, but with enhanced bass response similar to a dreadnought.
The balance is excellent across all strings. That is due to the Swiss spruce top and the Katalox (a tropical hardwood from Central America, pronounced "kat-a-loash") sides and back. This exotic tone wood, often used in violins and cellos, produces superior sustain and projection. Search for "katalox acoustic" on Reverb to see other katalox guitars and compare. This one is a bargain compared the others, which list from over $5,000 to more than $10,000.
If you want to hear what this instrument sounds like, go to the YouTube link shown in this listing (may not appear on phone app). Martin Tallstrom plays an arrangement of "Another Christmas Song" by Jethro Tull. It is played on a Loef OM/D identical to this one but for the lack of cutaway and slotted headstock.
For a couple of tracks of this actual guitar, go to soundcloud.com and search for billchas44. I recorded in my home on my computer without any special equipment or effects, so you may want to adjust the volume for each track, as the distance to the mic varied. Please forgive the rough spots in my playing. I am 77 years old and my manual dexterity is not what it used to be. Be sure to plug into a good sound system to get the true tone and character of the guitar.
A Gator professional model hard case with TSA compliant lock is included.
