I have had this bass since 1982/1983 and never played it in a bar or on the road. It has always been in an temperature controlled environment. It plays just as it should. You will not regret acquiring this piece of music history. I've not changed anything since I've had it. Although the thumb rest was moved prior to me. If you look at the pic you can see the original screw holes. The fender name on the headstock is faded but if you hold at an angle to the light you can see fender precision bass. I have never taken it apart until tonight and on the neck it has N 4 but no other numbers . I have not looked under anything else.
