About This Listing

This is a circa-‘66-67 vintage Fender Coronado XII, rare 12 string model, in gorgeous candy apple red finish.
An extra cool thing about this one is: the back of the headstock is stamped “SPECIAL”. This was a stamp Fender used to indicate that a guitar was either custom-made or was hand-picked as a best-of-the-best, to lend to dealers or to the rock stars of the day, in order to get this guitar seen and adored by the masses.
True to its "SPECIAL" designation, this guitar plays and sounds like a dream. I have owned other vintage collectible 12 strings...namely a Vox Ultrasonic XII....but this Coronado blows that thing out of the water.
As far as which rock star may have played this in the sixties, I'm not sure. I do know that this guitar belonged to the Brian Jonestown Massacre for a while in the '90s/'00s, as I purchased this from a friend of the band.
The guitar is in excellent vintage condition in terms of how it plays. No issues to speak of.
Cosmetically, it looks very good. The candy apple red finish is bright and transparent so you can see subtle wood grain thru the color.
Rectangular mother of pearl inlays.
There are a couple dings/scratches to the finish on the back of the guitar (one is about 2 inches long, and the other is an inch long), and a teeny ding on one side. All are shown in my photos and I can send more photos if needed.
Vintage Fender hardshell case included. I assume it's the original. The hardshell case is in "vintage" condition... it doesn't look pristine, but it is fully functional and structurally sound.
Happy to send more photos, audio, video...just ask!

A NOTE ON SHIPPING COST:

I am an individual seller, not a guitar store. Therefore, shipping this gorgeous masterpiece of a guitar to you safely means I will take it to the UPS store and have them professionally pack it and ship it insured to you. From past experience, the cost of the packing service plus shipping ends up being anywhere from $300 for within the US to $900 for international. My shipping quotes reflect a $300 discount for you, off the amount it would otherwise cost.
International buyers: if you have a preferred or less expensive way you’d like me to ship the guitar, please message me and I can adjust shipping cost accordingly
