What's the deal with refurbished?
This instrument is stamped "used" on the back of the headstock and given a new serial number by the manufacturer-authorized refurbisher. Why? It was deemed to have a cosmetic imperfection or to need a repair. Check the description to see exactly why this instrument is considered refurbished. We scrutinize every instrument and pass along all information from the refurbisher so that you know exactly what you are getting. These are like new with little or zero play wear!
This Contemporary Series Guild guitar was made in the USA, during Fender’s ownership, in Tacoma, WA. The nitrocullose lacquer finish, solid Red Spruce top and solid mahogany back/sides give the guitar all the resonance and responsiveness you want out of a Guild guitar. But the tone is also deceptively lush and large for an orchestra body. Truly, it is a fine instrument that will get you a lot of mileage for your money.
This particular instrument had some separation of the binding from the body and a lacquer check on the side of the neck heel near the fretboard. These have been repaired and sealed by a Guild-authorized refurbisher to ensure there is no issue in the future. We have included close-up photos so you can take a look. There is a bit of scuffing on the side of the headstock which we have photographed as well. Aside from what we have described, this instrument is in mint condition.
How Does It Play?
We have given this guitar a nice thorough setup to ensure it is ready to play with low action and without fret buzz. The neck set angle is not perfect, as was the case with many of the Contemporary Series. But the guitar sets up nicely with string action of 7/64" on the low E at the 12th fret and 5/64" on the high E at the 12th fret.
The original Guild Deluxe TKL hardshell case included along with the case key and the Fender Mist & Wipe sampler that was packaged with the guitar from the factory.
