Busato (1940's) - Grand Modele Luxe
A truly exceptional, and one-of-a-kind guitar - both by rarity and tone.
1940's Busato's are widely accepted as arguably the best gypsy jazz guitars ever built. Busato's have an amazing amount of sonic as well as aesthetic character.
And...Busato's are rare. Grand Modele Luxe (aka "Model #46") is even more rare. Original sunburst finish is virtually impossible to find. And then finally - look at the sides of this guitar - you can see it's adorned by the most ornate brazillian rosewood inlay marquetry.
This is the only Busato in existence with this kind of elaborate work: beyond rare-of-the-rare.
Combined with the most desirable player's features - full 670mm scale, 14-frets to the body - as well as impressive visual notes - colored inlay on both sides of the headstock, neck heel, tortoise purfling, beautiful carved top with f-holes, and finally the most incredibly ornate and figured brazillian rosewood back.
To augment the package, we've also added an original 1950's DeArmond Rhythm Chief 1100 pickup (itself worth >$1,000) and a pickguard replica hand-constructed by Martin Tremblay.
The sound is classic and vintage gypsy - clear, compressed, and gutsy. The guitar is fully restored to superb playability with an expert refret over a new ebony fingerboard. Of course the guitar has its share of battle scars, wear, and repairs over the last 80 years, but it has a story to tell and feels like a tangible piece of Parisian history. Once in a lifetime opportunity.
Ships in Hiscox flight case, comes with original tailpiece and tuners.
