Up for sale is a Lorenzo Pimentel 001F classical guitar built in June 1970 ( according to the “old style” label ). The instrument is in excellent condition, no dings or cracks, there are 2 very small finish flaws, one at the neck joint about 1” of finish off the joint ( no crack at all in the joint ), and a small area on the fret board that appears to have missed being varnished. Both are pictured.
The sides and back are beautiful solid dark stained mahogany, the walnut bound top appears to be spruce — Spanish pine according to the brochure, the bridge appears to be Brazilian rosewood, hard to say but the fret board is either ebony or dark stained rosewood. These all come together to produce a beautiful mellow almost haunting tone one would expect from a 49 year old Pimentel. This I will really miss — especially at Christmas.
The scale is 654 mm, the nut is 1 15/16”, the action is high for me at the 12th fret 5/16 - 1/4” but it is very nice playing in 1st-3rd even 5th positions with no rattling or buzzing at all. My luthier said the action is typical for classicals, he noted a 1/8” forward bow in the neck that may have been built into it and he wouldn’t fool with it at all.
The guitar comes in a period hard shell case that may be original but probably not. It is in fair condition with the outer “skin” delaminating at edges of the case, it can easily be glued down, all the latches and hinges work fine ( no key ). The case contains a period article about Lorenzo, a event program, and a period very cool Pimentel brochure.
