1970 Yamaha GC-7 Brazilian Rosewood Grand Concert Classical Guitar

Here is an excellent condition rare first series, 1970 Yamaha Grand Concert Classical Guitar Model GC-7.
This is a high level quality classical guitar. It was made in a small corner of the Yamaha Nippon-Gakki factory in Japan. This first series of Yamaha Grand Concert guitars were hand-built under the direct supervision of master luthier Eduardo Ferrer.
This particular Yamaha guitar is a masterpiece of sound. It has concert level volume. This is a guitar that sings. The guitar is a splendid combination of Spanish and Orchestral tone.
The overall condition of the guitar is excellent. There are no cracks in the top, back or sides of this guitar. The entire instrument was carefully inspected, and the original finish was lightly cleaned.
There is a slight amount of crazing in the finish of the top, which is normal for lacquer finished guitars of this age. There are also a few small yellowed spots in the lacquer at the bottom of the guitar, which are shown in the photos.
This hand crafted guitar was built using solid Brazilian rosewood for the back and sides, a mahogany neck and a solid European spruce top. The binding and headstock cap are made using Brazilian rosewood. The guitar has the intricate rosette used only on this early Grand Concert GC-7.
Scale length on this guitar is 660 millimeters. The ebony fretboard and frets are in excellent condition. They have just been cleaned and polished. Action on the 12th fret low E string is 4 millimeters and the 12th fret high E string measures 3.5 millimeters. Nut width is 52 millimeters.
This guitar still has the original gold Yamaha tuners in excellent condition. They have high ratio gears with very little wear.
This is a very rare first series Yamaha Grand Concert guitar. Because of this, it uses a unique numbered and dated label actually made from a thin wood veneer. This is one of the methods of recognizing a true Yamaha Grand Concert.

In the mid 1960's Yamaha wanted to build quality classical guitars. Knowing that the secrets of building a great guitar were passed down from father to son for generations of Spanish luthiers, they hired Eduardo Ferrer. Eduardo was the nephew of Benito Ferrer, one of the greatest luthiers of the early 20th century known for having given Andres Segovia his first quality guitar.

In 1966, 1967 and 1968, Yamaha hired Eduardo Ferrer to teach their three greatest luthiers how to build great classical guitars. From this instruction, the Yamaha Grand Concert series of guitars was born. The first series are the most rare and are generally considered to the highest quality. Comparable modern Yamaha Grand Concert guitars range in cost from 7,000 to 10,000 dollars.
The comparable model number in a newer Yamaha Grand Concert guitar would be a GC-70. This guitar is made to a higher standard and is half the price of that model.

The guitar will be carefully packed and shipped in its good condition hard shell case placed inside a sturdy box.
