Gibson ES 125 Mahogany 1948 Walnut Stain

1948 Gibson ES-125 in excellent condition. This is one of the rarest production Gibson models, different from the standard ES 125 in that this model is made of all mahogany and the pickup is an early alnico rod version of the P-90. This model is adorned with Les Paul style trapezoid inlays, a feature not seen in the later sunburst models except for the slightly more premium ES 135.

The guitar has no cracks or structural issues whatsoever. The original  nitrocellulose lacquer exhibits regular checking patterns, showcasing the vintage soul of this instrument. 

The all mahogany body versions of these were only made for about a year in 1947-48. All original except for the knobs and bridge. The original tuners come in the case but have been removed as the buttons have begun to decay (and one case come off). The slug magnet P-90 has a huge clear sound. These are quite a bit more powerful than bar magnet P-90s that came later. This one has string balance compensation with a lowered B string pole which is perfect for nickel strings and flatwounds. The neck is a perfect round medium shape that is comfortable and fast. Standard 24 3/4" scale and 1 11/16" nut width.  The dark mahogany body has a subtle sunburst over the walnut stain, which gives it an elegant look. Original Gibson chipboard case included.
