About This Listing
Pretty rare to see a 1968 Fender Stratocaster, in great original Shape, but here is one that should stir up some interest! Just like Jimi Hendrix bought from Manny's Music in new York, when they opened up after hours for him, given his fame and notoriety! They had a slightly different pickup wind in this era, providing what is sometimes described as a more "transparent" tone, a tone that is very "Hendrix". A typical, lightweight Alder Body, finished in Fender's famous 60's 3 Tone Sunburst, with the 60's standard, Rosewood Fretboard, the only change made to this guitar is a pretty much undetectable expert refret, in the original dimension Fretwire. The original Backplate (not in the pics) comes with this real great example of a mid to late era Strat. I am happy to talk trades and swaps. I have a particular interest in good vintage Martin Guitars.....
The Fender Stratocaster is arguably the most iconic, most played, and most copied electric guitar design of all-time. Fender launched the Strat in 1954, and the model evolved throughout the '50s and '60s. With the CBS purchase of Fender in 1965, the classic era of Strat production ended, and subsequent Strats are of considerable less interest to collectors than pre-cbs examples. Those from 1966 are considered "transition" era Fenders, and are much more desirable than Strats from the end of the '60s and the '70s.
Years of Production: 1954 - present
Unique to this Year: Larger headstock size starting at end of 1965, transition continues in 1966.
Body Style: Offset solidbody
Wood Composition: Alder body, Maple neck with veeneer Rosewood fingerboard
