Up for sale, a 1984 Fender '62 vintage reissue Stratocaster upgraded with a full USA wiring harness and Fender Custom Shop Fat 50s pickups. Designed to pay homage to the golden era Pre-CBS Strat, this early Fender Japan reissue is a rare model with an "A" prefix serial number and a host of vintage-spec touches including a slab rosewood fretboard, pencil dated neck heel, correct early '60s neck shape, and alder body.

Crafted in the famed Fujigen factory in Japan, this very early "Made in Japan" Strat was made exclusively for the Japanese domestic market and is rarely seen outside its country of origin. The Custom Shop "Fat 50s" pickups feature alnico V magnets with Formvar-coated wire, fiber bobbins, cloth-covered lead wires, and staggered, hand-beveled pole pieces, yielding the glassy highs and warm lows you expect from vintage pickups. These pickups are also wound for a slight increase in bass response and output compared to vintage coils, providing just a bit more overall heft and roundness. The guitar weighs in at 7lbs 9oz. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, this guitar plays well with low action and solid intonation.

The maple neck has a fairly slender C shaped profile with a bit more shoulder and overall heft as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .830" deep at the 1st fret and graduating to .905" at the 12th. The fretboard is a particularly thick and tight-grained rosewood slab with lightly rolled fretboard edges, and the guitar plays effortlessly with a vintage-correct 7 1/4" vintage fretboard radius and original slender fretwire. The frets show notable wear beneath the G and B strings on frets 1-6, with lighter wear until fret 10. The guitar plays cleanly in all positions, and the neck is straight with a responsive truss rod. The nut measures 1 5/8" in width. The headstock sports a Pre-CBS small Strat shape, with Kluson-style Gotoh tuners which turn smoothly and hold pitch well. The stock decal is flawless.

On the body, the electronics all work as they should, and the entire harness is brand new with only the finest components used. The Fender Custom Shop Fat 50s pickups are wired to 250K CTS pots, a Switchcraft five-way switch, and a premium Sprague Orange Drop tone capacitor. The vintage-style vibrato bridge is faithful to Fender's original design, sporting "Fender" branded saddles which show light surface patina. The full size tremolo block adds to the fullness of this Strat's tone, and the vibrato actuates easily for quick surfy warbles and deeper dives. A replacement brown tortoise pickguard and USA knob set to match the pickup covers round out the look. The guitar shows an assortment of nicks and scuffs on the body as a whole, primarily on the back and lower bout edge. The "Made in Japan" text has been sanded off neck heel just north of the "A" serial four-bolt neck plate, yet this wear is not down to the bare wood and still has a satin feel.

Don't miss out on this soulful example of a "Made in Japan" 1962 reissue Strat that easily rivals most USA-built counterparts (and features a Custom Shop pickup set and comparable wiring harness).

A gigbag is included.
