Description: Built by Welson in Italy and marketed by Wurlitzer in North America these thin-line Semi-acoustic guitars were the organ and jukebox giant’s second attempt at getting in on the 60’s guitar boom. The first group of mostly solid body instruments they marketed were built by The Holman Co. in Neodesha Kansas who also made Instruments for LaBaye, among others. But not this one. She came from Castelfidardo. The Welson Company, the guitar side of an accordion company founded by Orlando Quagliardi in 1921, was one of the first Italian manufacturers to get into electric guitar building. They have a very high build quality and in this period were obviously taking their cues from Gibson. This example, essentially a Welson D2 re-badged for Wurlitzer, is in remarkable condition. A thin-line double-cut semi with an internal block, like a 335, two double coil pick-ups and a three position switch that can go from ‘Solo’ through ‘Sharp’ all the way to ‘Wild’. I kid you not. Although certainly not a replacement for anybody’s 335, she is a great sounding, easy playing gem from an underappreciated line. She is 100% original, retaining her trem arm and ash tray, and will ship in a new Gator foam lined case.
