here is mostly original 1958 Fender Esquire, parts and hardware are all original except for newer pots, body finish is original, neck is a partial refinish / overspray with a new decal, While not the owner of the guitar, I have known and played this guitar since 1970 when I was 10 years old. This was the " house " guitar at Edwins Music store in Buffalo, New York. The store received the guitar from Fender in 1958 but it was not sold, in was in the store for sale for awhile but in mid 1960. there was a fire that destroyed most of the store, the guitar had been in the front window and somehow survived with only a light scorching / melting of the lacquer on the upper part of the neck and headstock, it was not burnt but received enough heat to melt the lacquer which shriveled and left it with a very rough texture and also ruined the original logo as it was on top of the lacquer finish as it was done back then. the neck was then lightly sanded and a couple coats of clear were applied to make it playable once again. the guitar was then used until for lessons in the music store for the next 48 years or so ( 2009 -2009 ) when the son of the original owner passed away and the store was liquidated. At that time the guitar was purchased by the present owner who is also a customer of mine, it was very strange to see this come into our shop as I had no idea who had purchased the instrument when it was sold and being a customer of mine, he had no idea that I knew so much about the guitar. The new decal was applied at that time and cleat coated to protect it. The pictures show the original penciled neck date of 4-58 and also another pencil marking of either the number 55 or possibly the letters SS ? not sure what those are but the neck date is clear The guitar plays great and sounds like everything it should.a very nice survivor looking for a new home the owner may consider any reasonable offers but he ain't giving it away folks so lowball offers will be politely refused, also, shipping insurance on this one won't be cheap so don't expect free shipping, it just can't be done on an instrument of this cost, best shipping on something this expensive is USPS Express which get it there either overnight or at worst 2 day if you are in more remote areas, this is about $350 or so with insurance across the country, it may be a bit less if you are close to us but not by much as it is the insurance that is expensive and we won't ship it without insurance ABSOLUTELY NO INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING, TOO MUCH OF A HASSLE WITH PAPERWORK AND WE AREN'T DOING THAT
Before the Telecaster and the short-lived Broadcaster, there was the Esquire: Fender'sf first production solid-body electric guitar. The original Esquire came out in 1950 and was produced with either one or two pickups. Apart from standardizing the two pickup layout, the Broadcaster also introduced a truss rod into the neck when it premiered in autumn of that same year. No Esquires were produced from September 1950 to January 1951, when the model was reintroduced as a single pickup counterpart to the Telecaster. By the mid-'50s, the Esquire designed had changed to include a white celluloid pickguard instead of black bakelite. Staggered height pickup poles were also introduced in 1955.
