Vintage Kawai S-180, branded 'Prestige'. 1960's. This the 'high end' model, the flagship Kawai four pickup version.
Working condition is fully functional. Everything works. I have always just 'plug and played', no big concerns as she has always delivered. The pots and switches could use a cleaning. The electronics work smoothly and positively.
Reasonably sure everything is original to this guitar. Missing the whammy bar. Tuner posts feel slightly bent but function as intended.
This guitar is super cool! Very playable, the action is medium low throughout the neck. Obviously, people think of this model as "the" 'Hound Dog Taylor' - Slide guitar... which it totally is... but don't confuse this guitar for a banana neck mutant with high action.
This is a serious all around guitar, unlike many 'department store' MIJ guitars of the period. (OK, setup wise, it's not going to kick your high end Suhr or R8 to the curb, but absolutely playable as is. Any decent player will be immediately loving life and making music on this beast. Any good luthier could sweeten this one up to complete perfection if you decide to bestow the honor).
Undeniable attitude and vibe, this is a monster guitar. Unique in tone, from the 'all out' 4 pickup raunch to nuanced variations of the individual pickups and combinations. The S-180 is a great compliment to traditional guitars in the studio / on stage. I would imagine that most creative players would be inspired to write, create or even build a career on the deep possibilities awaiting to be unleashed in this machine.
Big monster neck, four pickups and some sweet sweet chrome! They don't make guitars like this anymore!
