Today, Lawman Guitars is Presenting..
A beautiful Vintage and RARE 1963 Hofner Cats-Eye Model 545
Mandolin with original case. This Mandolin is all original and plays as good as
it looks. All Mahogany with a Carved Mahogany Open Slotted Heastock and of
course the awesome looking Cats-Eye Fully bound Sound holes. This mandolin is awesome..I
dated this instrument from the Block inlays and tailpiece. They used a
different tailpiece prior to 1963 and went to dot inlays later. Plus, the original
owner also told me it was a 1963.
It comes in the shown original case that’s as nice as the
mandolin…No funny odors and it fits the Mandolin great.
Heres some info I found on the net regarding these cool RARE
Mandolins…
Symmetrical tear drop-style body, arched mahogany top, arched mahogany back,
mahogany sides, two bound cat's-eye soundholes, wide top and back binding,
mahogany neck, 17-fret rosewood fingerboard with large block inlays, slotted
elaborate headstock with four-per-side open-style tuners, rosewood bridge,
trapeze tailpiece, pearloid pickguard, in Natural finish.
As the cutaway archtop guitar craze was gaining momentum in the USA, Hofner
began focusing a lot of attention on building guitars based on the Gibson and
Epiphone designs. In the mid-1950s they introduced a few carved mandolin
models, all borrowing the unique "cat's-eye" sound holes from the Gretsch
Synchromatic series. This example from the early sixties, built entirely of
mahogany, is a combination of ornate (fancy carved slotted headstock) and
inexpensive (plastic pickguard screwed into top) features.
This
beautiful Mandolin Plays as well as it looks. We have it Pro Setup with new
Strings and it has whisper low action. No sore fingers with this Germany
Beauty..
Sold as-is
no returns as it’s a used vintage instrument. However, I have been hand picking
my customers instruments for over 16 years now and all have loved the guitars,
basses, banjos and mandolins I find. This beautiful Mandolin will not be an
exception to that. Check my Feedbacks for further comfort.
Thanks for
checking out my cool guitars.
