Building our own shells from scratch is a point of pride at HHG. Being able to make shells from scratch also allows 4 a good amount of experimentation and flexibility in the way they are constructed. This drum is an experiment in how far we could push some of those boundaries.
We started with a ridiculously thick shell, somewhere around an inch and a quarter. We then proceeded to machine a deep and wide Cove into the center of the drum. The shell is about 1 inch thick at the edges and thins down to around half an inch thick in the center of the cove.
The drum in these pictures is made from cherry wood, however we can make it from whatever species you would like. Also, the drum pictured features a high gloss transparent orange lacquer, we can also do whatever custom finish would like on the drum. When you buy this drum today we will be building it for you from scratch, that gives us the opportunity to customize it to your liking, or if you would like, we can build it exactly as it is pictured
