1944 Kay M-1 upright bass in very good condition. No neck breaks. Non-adjustable bridge. Nylon gig bag.
Kay M-1 (Maestro) #12176 was built in Chicago in early 1944, and appears to be in standard configuration, a very nice example. It has lost its scroll volutes (early pattern).
The M-1 was Kay's flagship model from the beginning of bass and cello production in 1937 through the company's liquidation in '69. Characterized by its violin shape and rosewood fingerboard and appointments, it was the secondmost-popular model after the less expensive C-1. I estimate total M-1 production in the 12,000-13,000 range
We will deliver this bass within 250 miles of Kansas City, Missouri.
