Here is a rare guitar. This is an Oahu Volu-Tone archtop. These were
acoustic guitars fitted with lap steel pickups most likely made by
Supro. They are similar to what Harmony did later on but a bit more
upscale. I believe the first electric guitar Gretsch made was identical to this. Not only
would this project be a nice add to someone's collection but it would be
the optimum choice for a jazz player. As you can see it needs a bit of
work. The neck is loose and will have to be re-glued. The tailpiece
looks original but it will need a bridge. I don't have the original
knobs but I have some 1930s radio knobs that look the part. The
fingerboard appears to be ebony and is very nice although there is a
crack in it. It still retains it's original nut. The jack plate looks
original. I have a set of tuners that I'm throwing in which are similar
to what Orpheum was using in the 30s. They do need new buttons. This is a
pretty straightforward project. It just needs some love. It will make
an awesome guitar one day.
