Rare among the rare JV serial pre-Fender basses: a medium-scale Squier JV jazz bass. I’m not an expert so I don’t know the exact year for this but I’m assuming it’s an ‘83.
The classic jazz bass sound you can ask for with superior build quality from 80s Japan. The neck is straight, very comfortable to play, while the truss rod still has some room (possibly about a half way turn clock-wise). Plus, the medium-scale is fun to play on, especially for those with medical conditions that need a shorter scale bass.
Every blemish and scratches are in the pictures but as you can see, it’s in quite a good condition considering its age. It hasn’t been shielded so there are buzzing sounds when the tone is on when it’s not properly grounded. The sound has a classic passive jazz bass sound. AMAZING for recording.
The condenser was replaced with a “Grey Tiger” condenser, which itself cost about $200 USD. The tone has slightly change but definitely improved and the volume of sound has increased considerably. The original condenser will be included for those that want to return it to its original state.
These Fujigen-made basses were tested by Fender before setting up their Fender Japan branch. Both Squier JV and Fender JV serial guitars are known for their quality that has lasted since the early 80s.
