Want that British KT66-6L6GC sound and a little lower gain in the drive channel? This is the Low Gain Option Retube Kit for the Peavey 6505. The preamp section uses a standard ECC83S in V1, two ECC832's in V2 and V3, a standard ECC83S in V4 and a current balanced ECC83S in V5 for the phase inverter. The ECC832's drop the gain in the drive channel making it sound more open and natural, not to mention easier to control, and there is plenty left!
The KT66 6L6GC Integrated Quad is comprised of carefully matched pairs of tubes that will work together in a 100 watt amp with the KT66's running in the outside sockets and the 6L6GC's running in the inside two sockets. This combination is plug and play with no mods necessary!
The KT66's add a British flavor, they have a very thick and rich sound with lots of harmonic complexity and a wonderfully smooth breakup when driven into saturation. A really great combination when mixed in with the classic sound of the JJ 6L6GC's.
Unlike other tube venders who charge for low noise tubes, all our tubes meet rigorous tests for low noise, microphonics and nine additional tests.
A note about "V" numbers. Some wise guy at Peavey decided to randomly label the preamp tubes, so the V numbers that are listed on the schematic starting from the first position which is closest to the input jack starts with V1, then V2, V5, V3 and V4. The small minority of players who venture into reading the schematics have discovered this and ask why? Good question... They also ask why we refer to the tubes as V1 thru V5 starting with the preamp tube closest to the input jack or the edge of the amp.
The Answer? It's MUCH easier and less time consuming to explain this to a very small number of players than to explain to hundreds if not thousands of players that you count 1, 2, 5, 3 and 4... So we refer to the V numbers as V1 thru V5!
If you want all the power and fidelity to get from your amp to your speakers then check out our custom made 10 Gauge speaker cables in our Reverb storefront. These cables are the largest cables made and leave no frequency unheard!
The video below shows both our preamp tube testing and power tube matching procedures here at Eurotubes which are second to none. We may not be the cheapest, but we are arguably the best.
