*** VINTAGE & TRADITIONAL GUITARS ***

_______________________________________________________

Selling on commission on behalf of Colin Keefe, luthier. Possibly made in the first half of the 1960s, possibly 1950s, this is a little gem of an instrument! All original, including the Hoyer stamped pick-up, the condition is breathtakingly good! I can't imagine finding one of this age in better condition! _______________________________________________________

Stock Number: VTGC1031.

Stunningly attractive vintage Mandolin, from the renowned Hoyer Company, having the small guitar shaped body, which is frequently referred to as Mandolinetto. Main dimensions are as follows:-

Overall length & width are 62.5cm./24.6" & 24.5cm./9.65". Scale Length is approx. 344mm./13.54". Nut width is approx. 32.5mm./1.28".

The superb looks of the Mandolin, are enhanced by the superb original construction and individual design a fittings features, coupled with the superb condition in which they are still shown off to full advantage. Beautiful shaded sunburst finish to top, sides & back highlight the superb arched Spruce top, arched Maple back & also Maple sides, with Cream top & back bindings. Fingerboard looks like Rosewood, with the Perloid banded position marker inlays, zero fret, again fully bound, and raised fingerboard extension, on which is mounted the original Hoyer pickup. Further Perloid for the raised pickguard, and bound headstock facing.

A quote from a discussion thread on the Mandolin Cafe Website.

"In brief, guitar-shaped mandolins are also called "mandolinetto" (no particular reason, that's just the name for them). In the early part of the last century, there were a lot of mandolinettos around, the most prominent of which were "Howe-Orme" in the US. For some reason, in the period immediately after WWII, German makers latched onto building guitar-shaped mandolins with f-holes at a time when virtually nobody else in the world did so. All of the mass-market German makers of the time did so, such as Framus, Hofner, Otwin and indeed Hoyer. So, a Hoyer with guitar-shape body, arched top and f-shaped soundholes is very likely to be from between, say, 1946 and, say 1965. They are basically scaled-down versions of their archtop jazz guitars from the same period."

PRICE.                                             Β£549.00.

I invariably offer my guitars on a "Buy it Now" basis, corresponding to the pricing on my Vintage & Traditional Guitars website, and I don't usually use "or Best Offer" as my prices are always based on the prices I have already achieved for comparable guitars, and reflect the often many hours of workshop time and skilled professional restoration which have gone into the guitar you buy.....very different from many guitars you will see, no doubt of similar type, sold "as-is", or by non-professional sellers, where a cheap buy turns into an expensive repair session with the luthier....I've already done that for you!

That is not to say that the prices are set in stone.....my overriding aim is to restore guitars to excellent playing condition, to put into the hands of those with the playing skills I so often admire, but fail to emulate....there are many good customers of mine who will testify to the fact that I am a soft touch for a good player who wants to haggle! I'm not super-keen on part-exchanges, but will do them if the circumstances are right, but I can usually find some discount margin for a cash buyer!

In this particular case I am selling on behalf of my customer, the luthier who has overhauled the Mandolin & I am governed by his decision on selling price etc.

CONDITION.

_______________________________________________________

Really exceptional overall condition and originality. The pick-up has been checked and is working, and the only minor servicing work has been done by Colin Keefe, before sale, including replacing the previous plastic jack socket with a new standard metal one, for better connection, making/fitting a new raised pickguard support bracket, f

itting a new end strap-button, servicing the original tuning machines, which do work fine, only showing modest typical age-related discolouration, light stoning/re-profiling to the frets and re-stringing.

There is really no visible wear to the fingerboard. The metal pick-up mounting, adjustable floating bridge, and metal tailpiece are all intact, showing only a small amount of age-related marking, but generally clean & bright. Additional photos can now be uploaded on eBay, but these can also be seen at the Vintage & Traditional Guitars website, or I can email them to you if you contact me via
