Brazilian rosewood has long been considered to be a cherished tonewood by musical instrument builders and collectors. With extraordinary aesthetic characteristics and rich sustain, its exceptional tone and quality make Brazilian rosewood one of the most coveted woods in the music industry.
In the late 90's PRS came across several Brazilian Rosewood logs. These were much denser than the sapwood streaked wood that is available today. It is much darker and more dense. Due to international laws against rosewood harvesting, this wood is no longer available. It also cannot be exported from the US, even though it is thoroughly documented at the PRS factory as being pre-Cites treaty wood.
PRS only builds guitar necks with this wood in Private Stock guitars and very limited editions. The smoothness and bell-like sustain must be experienced to be appreciated.
