About This Listing

Big Red is going home… by DHL??.. perhaps to where YOU live.

Actually quite rare to get but “Bavarian Time is running out” and this makes it possible.

The Signature-Modell “Big Red” goes back to the year 2005 and has been until now immortalized in two Signature-Models.

1.     As limited Edition consisting of 50 Guitars with a red back of the neck and Signature.

2.     As complete Gibson Custom Shop Signature Modell with black back of the neck, a Gibson Custom Shop Sticker and the signature of Alvin Lee.        The latter I am selling.

After breaking the neck of his 59er, Alvin got a 63´s „Block-Inlay Slim-taper” neck. The pickups of this guitar are two 57er classic humbucker without cover (Alvin tock the cover of the original off to improve the sound) and one single coil Seymour Duncan in the middle.

The hardware consists of one ABR-1-bridge and one TP-6-endpiece. Lee switched his original end piece with a TP-6-unit with fine-tuners.

Nearly all descriptions of the Big Red claim, that Alvin with “Ten Years After” at Woodstock already played with a Block-Inlays neck; this also allegedly because it is “faster”? That is spoken lightly chicken-shit (smaller version of bullshit).

Anyone with eyes sees that Alvin in Woodstock (Bethel NY) played the old original 59-neck with dot-inlays.

But that’s that, the custom shop has the Big Red as 58/59 version with a 63er neck and this is all that matters. A 63er custom shop model with block-inlay came by the way with as Gibson custom shop 1963 ES 335 VOS into shops and had smaller “ears” and a slightly smaller pickguard; to that it came with a slim neck and block inlays.

With his faithful stickers from the hippie time gives the guitar a flair out of long gone times; Peace, Love and Rock'n' Roll.

Sound:       The 57er classic humbucker do their work without hiccups. The Seymour Duncan “Single Coil” in the middle position gives the guitar many more options, which were always important to Alvin because he loved the sound of the strat and he wanted to utilize it.

Naturally is one of the strengths of big red also the timbre of the Gibson ES-Models (Electric-Spanish), which makes and made the sound of Eric Clapton, Larry Carlton, Chuck Berry, John Lee Hocker, Robben Ford and of course Lucille, a special model for B.B. King so incomparable. From Blues over Rock'n' Roll onto R&B, Big Red does them all.

Accessories:      Gibson custom shop case, white guitar cable and a white Richter guitar strap with a total value of over 200 Euro. Trus Rod key and some Gibson hanging tacks with instructions.

A special thing to mention about this guitar is that Helmuth Lemme from Munich, Member of Gitec () and one of the oldest and most revered germane guitar-technicians made the circuits more stage suitable. By that you get a bit closer to the original Big Red equipment.

All three pickups are from the get go fitted with a volume knob each, which not interact with each other. The mix, which is made possible by a Les Paul with neck and bridge pickups with the “specific” mix of volume knobs, is sadly not possible.

This is the reason why now there is a total volume knob, which keeps the sound of the three pickups in their mixing ratio while still being able to change volume. The Big Red is for collectors indispensable, for players it’s a dream of sound and playability.

Signs of usage:   The guitar has age based signs of usage, which slightly show the usage of the guitar. Overall is it in a very good state.

Taxes-warranty:  The purchase price doesn’t include taxes in Germany, because it’s a used guitar from 2005 and sold privately. This could be different in other countries but has to be considered and payed by the buyer.

This purchase item is sold excluding any form of warranty. This exclusion doesn’t apply for claims for damages based on grossly negligent or intentional violations of duties by the vendor and for any violation of life, body or health.
