Gretsch By Valco 6144 Reverb Unit

Up for sale, a 1966 Gretsch 6144 Reverb Unit in exceptional, collector grade condition and in perfect working order. Made by Valco in Chicago (who also produced amps and reverb units with identical circuits under the Supro and National names), this Gretsch 6144 is 100% stock, right down to the mini two spring Accutronics reverb tank. The reverb is lush and splashy, with a different character than the Fender tanks produced in the 60s, and a unique tone for recording that matches very well with the preamps on other Valco amps. Versatile and simple in its design, the tank has one control for Reverb Intensity and a small three-way rotary switch to select the range of the reverb (Normal, Bass or Treble). This switch is a very cool feature that really helps tailor the reverb to individual instruments and recording situations, for the perfect amount of drip and cavernous, surfy tone.

Internally, the circuit is completely untouched, with original point-to-point wiring and solder joints. The faceplate and chassis shine with very clean chrome plating and intact black lettering. The stock Gretsch "G" pointer knob is intact, as well as the smaller Dakaware black knob for the rotary switch. Aside from a light speckling of surface rust on a couple places on the faceplate, this is about as clean as they come! The transformer dates to the first week of 1966 and even the original two-prong gray power cable is still present. Cosmetically, the exterior of the cab is in fantastic shape, with original gray/blue covering and creme grillcloth with gold sparkle thread. The Gretsch black plastic raised logo is intact and complete, a true rarity for these fragile logos!
