Gibson "The Hawk" guitars were only produced in 1996 and 1997 in Nashville Tennessee USA. This rare guitar is in the same family as the Blues Hawk and the Jazz Hawk guitars with the same body outline and scale length. It also features the same body comfort contour. It has a truss rod cover engraved in script - "The Hawk". The solid mahogany body and neck and the humbucking pickups makes this a more traditionally Gibson sounding guitar than any other in the Hawk family - however it does have the same 25.5" scale length as the rest of the family.
The Hawk is kind of like a love child of the SG and the Les Paul Special. It features a single cutaway solid mahogany body. It has a 22-fret rosewood finger board with dot inlays on a set mahogany neck. "The Hawk" is hard to find particularly in this red color. This one is very light weight at only 6.85 lbs. The color is a darker red than what it looks like in the photos. The neck is straight, the action is low, and the frets are in great shape. There is one notable chip on the back side of the headstock and the front of the headstock has some stress cracked lines in the paint that are visible in the pictures, but otherwise this guitar is in very good condition with a few small imperfections here and there that are expected on a 20-year-old guitar. No case is included.
