Gently used, happily road traveled Hondo Alien 4-string headless bass, which is a variation of the Kramer/Duke Steinberger copies from the early 1980s.  This bass takes regular single-ball strings, with the tuning heads located at the bottom of the instrument.   It's an aluminum T-shaped neck under the fingerboard, with no truss rod.

There's a single humbucking pickup, with a coil selector switch and tone/volume controls.  The knobs are not original (I don't think; most Hondo basses have black plastic knobs with numbers on them).   There is a small ding on the side of the neck/fretboard between the 8th and 9th frets (see picture) and a small divot out of the finish near the head/nut lock (that's original from when I purchased it; the ding was a trip to Austin).

I repaired the hardshell case -- replaced the handle that was broken off and replaced the handle pins, which aren't quite perfect but let the handle rotate freely.  The case is clean and all four clasps work.

The bass plays well, and while you can use it as a regular axe I mostly used it on trips as a practice instrument -- it's just small enough to fit in the overhead compartment of most airplanes, and it's light enough that I flew about 300,000 miles with it in the last three years.
