About This Listing

The Gibson Les Paul Standard stands as one of the most widely played and universally recognizable guitars ever. First marketed as the Les Paul model in 1952, the Les Paul evolved throughout the '50s until the design was replaced by the SG in late 1960. Up until 1958, the Les Paul sported a gold finish, and guitars from this era are collectively referred to as Goldtops. Goldtop Les Pauls are extremely prized by collectors, and each year showcases the major innovations made by Gibson throughout the decade.

Unique to this Year:  First full year with stud tailpiece/bridge combination. Depth of neck set also increases slightly in 1954.

Body Style: Single cutaway solidbody

Wood Composition: Mahogany body, Maple top, Mahogany neck, Rosewood fingerboard

Design Elements:  Two single-coil P90 pickups, trapezoid inlays, Kluson deluxe tuners, four control knobs, three-way pickup selector, white pickguard, bound fingerboard, stud bridge/tailpiece

Finish Specifications: All standard Les Pauls from before 1958 have a gold finish.

This LP shows a lot of really great play wear, plenty of checking, rubbing, nicks and dings. all telling a 64 year long story. The pickgaurd and hardware are not present. All other components and hardware are original and fully functional. The original P90s have one of the best tonal landscapes we've heard and played. In all three positions you get full clarity, no notes left behind!! Personally I find the golden (no pun intended) position to be the middle, combining both P90s together.

I lost a full hour of my life while playing this guitar and I have absolutely no interest in ever getting it back.

The original hardshell case is still here and still fully functional. Like the guitar it has some bumbs and bruises. The locking latch is not as tight as it once was but all latches and hinges function and hold closed. The leather on the handle is fraying but still all there. You can carry this guitar in it's case with 100% confidence for another 64 years.

Think about this...
Freddy King played one.
Jeff Beck played a 1954 Les Paul.
MIKE BLOODY BLOOMFIELD!!!!
I need not say anymore.

Scuffs and scrapes, dents and dings, repairs, modifications and replacements all are to be expected. So, while Guitar Showcase strives to accurately document and describe each piece we list, we can only accept responsibility for what we detail in the listing and what is visible in the photos. Guitar Showcase is eager to verify any additional details necessary to address any concerns you may have: just make sure to contact us with any questions you may have before bidding or buying.  Beyond this, Guitar Showcase can offer no guarantee and can accept no returns on Used or Vintage gear. Please be sure you know what you are buying, and please do not think that older, used and Vintage Instruments should be set up in perfect playing condition.

For high priced Vintage instruments, we highly recommend that you either have a local friend try the Instrument or come in and try it in person.

CONSIGNED GEAR:

Some of the gear in the Guitar Showcase eBay store is listed on behalf of a consignor.
