This little guy is the budget option out of the DX line. It’s a great starter FM synth with a minimal but flexible 4 oscillators and 1 LFO. It’s most notable for its very gritty and flexible bass patches.

If you do pick one of these up, I highly recommend learning how to synthesize FM with it rather than just using the patches it comes with. While some of the patches are killer sounds, the usefulness of those sounds is amplified dramatically when you actually put on the snorkels and menu dive.

Unless you’re an avid hip hop/Dance artist and are intending on using this guy JUST for its bass patches, the patches are useless. It has a good orchestra tone for some LoFi stuff and a few of its horns are good starters for menu diving and making something good. Most of the tones it comes with are begging to be jacked with in the menus for some truly outlandish sounds.

I strongly recommend against buying a DX100 just for the patches, you’re gong to be disappointed.

I recommend picking one of these up if you already have a diverse studio and tools to make this guy work. They’re great little synths, and especially good for a first time FM synth if you’re trying to learn what they’re about.

NOTABLE BLEMISH
I photographed one of the buttons and a corner it has that’s missing.

Comes with original power supply.
