Directly modeled after the Linn and Oberheim concepts, LM-1 and DMX respectively, the MXR 185 used 8-bit samples of drums. Keith Barr, founder of both MXR and Alessis, made a valiant attempt to enter the lucrative drum machine market of the early 80s, but the MXR 185 never caught on with any sort of popularity of the devices it was modeled after.
