Very rare, warm, super-nice sounding tube driven multi-effects processor/loop station from the late 90's. Way better than more current multi effects units made by DigiTech.
Here's a review from 2004 that describes this unit quite accurately.
-"Since last year (2004), I have been on a mission to see what "todays" processors are all about with the intention of replacing this box with something more current. I've purchased the Pod XT Live, Tonelab SE, Pod Pro and had extensive demo's with the Digitech GNX4 & Boss GT6. My hat goes off to the engineers of the RP-14D! Nothing, I mean "NOTHING" being manufactured today comes close to the tone and controllability of the RP14. Warm tube distortions, awesome effects throughout, fast bank switching, etc. Everything a "player" would want in a box. The 10-button user interface with overrides for "All" the effects is a "must" for the live player. (why is this so hard for these processor companies to figure this out?) The box does do amp models but I wouldn't consider it an amp modeler. I have recorded with the RP14, found that it does record very well, however, I also have a Johnson-J, a few amps, and some ART gear that I use for recording as well. No single unit does it all, you have to use several colors on your pallet before you start to paint. I'm using the Electro Harmonics 12AX7 and have found this to be a huge improvement over the stock tube. Nice upgrade for $7. Want to spice this box up more, buy a BBE sonic maximizer and hang it on the output of the RP14. Amaizing... Reliability/Durability I have used this box about 4 hours a week and have been doing that for the last 6 years now (Approx ~1200 hours). It has held up perfectly. I've never had any failures with the box yet. Now that the box has fallen out of the "demand window", I've picked up a second one as a backup for cheap. Price/Value
General Comments The fact that I have tried diligently to locate a "current-day" replacement for my RP14 and found that "nothing" on the market today is as good sets the opinion I have of the box. The best gear is old gear. Digitech really had it together in the late 90's. Today, Digitech produces toys for the basement jammer. Built-in sequencers, drum machines, technology that makes them "cute". This is the market they are after, that's what they'll get. The RP14 is for the serious musician who is more interested in control over his/her sound (great user interface) and great tone. I've been playing for 28 years and the last 14 years in a praise band for the Lord. I would not be steering you wrong to suggest you buy one of these and add it to your musical canvas. They are very cheap these days and would be a "Huge" asset to your setup. There is some cosmetic wear, but looks fairly clean for it's age.
