Up for sale is this set of pickups from a 1983 Fender USA Telecaster Elite.
Condition:
Excellent. The pickup has yellowed only slightly over the last 30+ years. There are no major scratches, gouges, chip, cracks, or any damage whatsoever to the pickup. My Elite pickup has been carefully unsoldered, not yanked out by an amateur, so there is still plenty of length on the pickup leads.
Sound:
You certainly won't mistake an Elite pickup for a standard Telecaster bridge pickup. Its output is closer to a husky Les Paul mini-Humbucker sound, with a lot of power to it.
About the Fender Elite pickups:
Pretty much every source I’ve read describes these as active
(powered) pickups. However, I doubt this to be true. If they are
powered, why is there no "hot" power lead, as there is in other
active pickups? Why do they show a resistance when they are
removed? In my opinion, the Elite pickups are (like the Lace
Sensors they are often compared to) not powered pickups
and should work in any guitar.
Not too hard. The original pickups were installed into the Tele Elite's body with mounting tape after running the wires through to the back pot cavity. This worked better than it sounds, and in fact these pickups were not easy to remove. Wiring them is standard stuff, going to the ground and a pickup switch. No, these pickups will not fit in the Stratocaster Elite, and I have no idea how they would work in another guitar. If you are gung-ho to try, they measure 1" x 3.25". Elite pickups will not fit in any standard Stratocaster or Telecaster pickguard.
