With great reluctance I am selling a very rare Ovation Magnum I fretless bass with the original Hard Shell Case and all the case candy that came with.
I have never seen another one of these come up for sale in all my years of collecting bass guitars. So whoever buys this bass will surely have something very special in their collection to play or admire (or both!).
The Ovation Magnum series was introduced in the 70s and were Ovations bold contribution to the bass guitar world. The instruments are high tech, even by today's standards, and very well designed. Their uniqueness has earned them a devoted following of vintage bass enthusiasts. These are perhaps most associated with Jah Wobble who gets his signature dub tone from a Magnum 1.
The bass features a single piece mahogany body, with a bolted and glued reinforced neck. Fingerboard is unlined ebony. There is Mudbucker and bridge pickup each with independent volume and tone control. Stereo and Mono output jacks. There is a switchable foam mute system at the bridge (foam is deteriorating and may need gluing or replacing soon). The saddles are independently adjustable and numerically calibrated for very exacting set ups. Too many features to list really! Best to have a look at the manual here:
This bass does have some nicks and dings here and there but has by no means been abused. All been photographed so please look at the pics and feel free to ask any questions.
I do have a fretted Ovation Magnum 1 which I could keep in the case with the candy contents so if you prefer to have this bass only we can work that out at a reduced price.
I am only selling this within the CONUS so if you are outside the lower 48 states please contact me first. We will need to determine the feasibility of shipping outside the CONUS and agree upon the additional costs.
Thanks for looking and please ask any questions.
