I have decided to sell one of my better, and more rare vintage Yamahas. This is an FG-580, made in 1973. The history of early Yamaha guitars is a bit foggy, but based on what I have read, this model was only produced from 1971-78. It has a solid spruce top, with what Yamaha calls jacaranda back and sides. There is some debate over whether the back and sides are laminate or solid woods. Yamaha's official site states that it does have a solid back, but I will let the buyer do his or her own research to determine this. No guarantees about construction materials, although I will say that this guitar is heavy, way heavier than my FG-180, which is an all laminate guitar of exactly the same size.
Original MSRP is said to have been $370. $370 in 1973 has the same buying power as $1,977.80 today. You can use an inflation calculator to easily check my figures.
That said, this guitar is used, has small scratches all over the body of the guitar, and one significant flaw that has been repaired. A previous owner had gouged a portion of the top with what I believe to be a wood carving tool. This can be seen on the top, directly above the pickguard. It was subsequently repaired to make it less noticeable, but it is there. Please move along if you are expecting a perfect thing, as this guitar is 42 years old, and has seen its share of rodeos. But, it does not affect the playability or structural integrity in any way.
However, the sound that this produces is first rate. It's touted as a handmade instrument, and the action and neck play wonderfully. It has an ebony bridge and fingerboard. Just google the model number and read the reviews from 580 owners around the world. I put a link to a video that I took with a Kodak digital camera. Not the best quality, but it is the guitar you will receive. There are a few other videos of the 580 on youtube that you can check out as well.

***I would trade this straight up for a Nippon Gakki FG-300 or a Martin GPCPA5K, or a PARTIAL trade for a natural Epiphone EJ-200CE.***
I have described this item to the best of my ability. Although I have been truthful in my description, I am selling this guitar as-is. I am a hobbyist and not a business, so please be sure you want this specific guitar, because I don't have the overhead to be shipping guitars back and forth. Please understand. I am selling this only as a way to secure funds for another project. My loss = your gain.
Please pay within 3 days of ending the auction, and I will ship within 3 days of receiving cleared payment. Check my feedback and bid with confidence! Thanks for looking!
