Here is a vintage Harmony Viol mandolin. Modified A-style mandolin. Marked as model No.55. Made in Chicago. We believe this to be a pre-war instrument. We believe it's from 1930's, though the label states patent applied for, and from what we've seen online, the patent for this mandolin was applied for in 1914. So it may be older.
The instrument is in very good shape for its age. It has some fret (and fingerboard) wear in the lower fret, lower string area. Overall the action is good, and and plays very good considering the age and wear. Being that Harmony is/was a lower end instrument, we were also impressed by the tone, sounding much better than any of us would have thought.
This mandolin also comes with a hardcase (original?) as well as an old pair of pliers and some vintage strings that we acquired with the mandolin.
