• For sale is this Manuel Rodriguez Mod D Rio Maccaferri Cutaway. It is a model from the Maccaferri series made by Rodriguez guitars. It is a long scale gypsy jazz guitar with the petite bouche soundhole. It has had a headstock repair from what looks like a fall which is very stable. The bridge has been replaced with a Gitane bridge, although I will include the original (it came with a heavy solid rosewood bridge with a saddle, really reduced the volume of the guitar). It also comes with gitane mustache pieces if you wanted to replace the originals. It is loud and competes well with my D-500 in volume, but will need work to get to its full potential. Some frets are buzzy and a setup would make this a pretty killer player. It retailed for over $1200 new. I replaced the original broken tailpiece with a Selmer copy. I picked it up as a DIY project, but don't have time to finish it up. Comes with case and two sets of strings. Good opportunity to get a solid gypsy guitar for the same price as a beginner model (with a little work of course). I tried to include all the pictures you need to make an informed decision as well as all the info internet googling provided.
Pros: top notch materials, feels well balanced and constructed, pronounced pliage, comfortable neck, no cracks in body, comes with goodies, awesome rosewood back and sides
Cons: Needs setup, previous heastock repair, some finish blushing on back
This series is solely dedicated to the Maccafferi guitars and D Rio is one of upscale models of the line and it comes with a standard single cutaway construction. Body of this model is made of rosewood and spruce. Rosewood is used for the back and side panels of the body, while the spruce is used for the sound board on top. Top panel is slightly arched and equipped with Indian rosewood binding. Also, the sound hole is oval and equipped with a classic rosette. Bridge section is a two-piece on this one. Rosewood bridge is in the front, while the decorative tailpiece sits in the back. Mahogany neck is topped with a 20-fret rosewood fingerboard.
It is tough to find much info on these, here is what google found:
