60's Egmond EG3 Thunder model built in Holland, restored and in superb condition. All electronics work properly and the three single pickups, with a p90-ish tone, aound absolutely glorious. All parts original and includes the original hardcase.

The Egmond brand began with Uilke Egmond (1878-1959) as a retired teacher in 1932. He founded a school and store in Valkenswaard. At the music school he taught violin and in the shop he sold instruments that were mainly imported from Eastern Europe.

In 1935 the business moved to Eindhoven and Uilke's sons, Gerard (1904-1974), Dick (1920-1992) and Jaap (1921-1993) joined the company during World War II. By this time the instruments imports ended and they decided to made the instruments on their own.

In the beginning of the 50s they had 20 employees and 50 guitars were made per week. Later they started to make banjos and mandolins. By the beginning of the 1960s, production increased to 2000 guitars per week, with 80 employees in the factory.

In the 60s Egmond was the largest luthier in Europe and was better known for the quantity of instruments they made than for its quality. Everyone could afford to buy a guitar, this being the main target for Egmond since day one. The cheaper models were only 10% price of a comparable Gibson or Fender model.
