The Studer 169 is regarded as one of the best sounding portable mixers ever made. They came in various configurations and this one is 10x2... 10 mic/line input channels (each with 3 band EQ and pan pots) and two master channels. It's in excellent condition for its age and was completely restored about five years ago. All capacitors were replaced with high quality Panasonic FC caps, so it sounds great and is ready for years of service.
I would describe the sound of the pres and EQ as open and detailed with smooth highs and a subtle warmth (the low shelf is great for bumping up that warmth). The EQ is meant for broad shaping, and you can get a sense of its sound in the YouTube video below (not mine, but a good demo).
The uses for this mixer are many. Being small, it was originally intended for location recording, but the build and sound are world class for any size. With 10 excellent mic pres, it makes a great front end for any recording set up. One could sum to stereo or make a simple mod to the channels for direct outs from the insert jacks. It also makes a great mixer to interface with a DAW, the EQs smoothing out the sometimes harsh highs of digital recordings. If you want to get in depth on features, I can send you a PDF of the original manual.
The only minor issue to speak of is that one of the VU meters is not working. I would expect this would be an easy fix for a tech. The front panel on the bottom is also missing, and there are replacement ones available on eBay if it is deemed necessary to have. A few of the plastic caps for the knobs are also missing, and I know a source for these, too.
This sale includes the original power supply unit and an extra master channel unit. The shipping cost includes insurance for the full value.
Thanks for looking and please contact me with any questions!
