Original factory matched pair of early - mid 1960s Gibson Patent Number sticker humbucker pickups. These are Pre T-Top, Non T-Top Patent Number models. Very nice set in excellent vintage condition. Very clean. This set was pulled from a project grade Gibson ES-355 Mono guitar about 10 years ago and they have been in my parts bin ever since. Pot codes dated the guitar to the 30th week of 1965 (July). These two pickups are a Gibson factory matched set, both from the same guitar.

This set exhibits all of the desired characteristics of 1960s early Patent Number pickups, including: "PATENT NO 2,737,842" decals, black and white bobbin lead wires, visible "L" tool markings on feet, "square in circle" mold markings on the bobbins, maple spacers, and short length (2.25") ALNICO V magnets. This set is pretty rare, as these pickups both have the much less common Green #42AWG poly coated bobbin wire. The green bobbin wire makes these pickups more unique than most of the Pre T-Top Patent Number humbuckers out there. The green bobbin wire was only used for a very short period of time (less than 1 year total). The "L" tool markings on the feet are very well defined and clearly visible. The "PATENT NO" decals on both pickups are intact and legible...pretty much perfect. The pole screws are original and they are Gold plated. Some of the heads show more wear than others, but the Gold plating remains intact. *These pickups are the final version of the "Patent Number" humbuckers to be manufactured before the T-Top bobbin models were introduced in early 1966.*

Both pickups have been tested and they are fully functional...ready to install. The Neck pickup measures 7.40K ohms on my multimeter and its original braided lead wire is 11 inches long. The Bridge pickup measures 7.43K ohms on my multimeter and its original braided lead wire is 11.5 inches long.

This set sounds phenomenal...and that is not just a sales pitch.  If I had a guitar to put these in, I would be keeping them.  I've recently downsized and sold off all of my project guitars, so I just don't have a need for these.  Honestly, this is one of the best sounding sets of Patent Number pickups that I have personally had the pleasure of testing out.  Exceptional harmonic tonal qualities and power.  To my ears, this set sounds better than some of the earlier purple bobbin wire versions that I've had in the past.  It is pretty much impossible to beat the sound of a good vintage humbucker with a DC resistance in the 7.2K - 7.5K range, which in my opinion is the true sweet spot for vintage humbuckers.  Both of these pickups land right in the middle of that range. This is a very nice, balanced set of vintage original "Patent Number" pickups. Perfect for a vintage Gibson restoration or to add some vintage mojo to your modern Gibson.

**Please keep in mind that the DC resistance measurement of a pickup will vary with temperature and environment. No pickup will give the exact same reading every time it is tested with a multimeter.**
