For sale - Used 2002 Vestax D'Angelico NYL-6 Special
Recently re-fretted by Pablo Valle of Valle Guitars.
This Vestax D'Angelico NYL-6 is a fantastic solid pressed-top archtop jazz guitar for anyone looking for classic 17" spruce top tone. Unlike today's Korean made guitars bearing the D'Angelico name, this guitar was made by the Vestax company of Japan in Tokyo to exacting standards with great results. The tone is classic bebop and hard-bop jazz guitar. I have been able to dial in great Johnny Smith style sounds with flatwound strings and more Peter Bernstein-like tones with bright round wound strings.
This instrument is surprisingly light thanks to the solid German Spruce top with a great balance between the neck and body. The frets are a vintage size and still show lots of life left. The NYL-6 Special is a stripped down version of the ornately appointed NYL-2 model and is geared towards the player ready to make music.
While this guitar has been played on gigs and recording sessions, it has been well maintained and features all original parts and hardware. The previous owner did install two additional strap pins at the heel. There is light polish swirl on the top and one noticeable finish scratch on the bass side f-hole. Please see photos for details.
Currently set up with .013 round wound strings.

"17" Hollowbody Archtop Cutaway with Solid German Spruce Top and Laminated Maple Back and Sides with Natural Finish and Single Floating Humbucker Pickup
Superb recreations of D'Angelico guitars were made for many years by the Vestax company of Japan
The NYL-6 Special was introduced in 2002 as a streamlined version of the popular D'Angelico NYL-2. However, the modifications were modest and essentially cosmetic with the NYL-6 featuring rectangular mother-of-pearl inlays instead of split-blocks, less elaborate binding, and a less figured grade of maple for the body. Otherwise, the NYL-6 Special was built with the same exacting standards that characterized the whole line of D'Angelico guitars made by Vestax and which established their reputation for very fine, top quality production.
