Player's Perspective
Jackson has been turning out beautiful, bizarre and impeccably built instruments since 1980. In fact, Jackson started as a custom shop, crafting one-of-a-kind instruments for shred wizards like Randy Rhoads. Almost 35 years later, Jackson's custom built guitars continue to be the fastest and most musical shred-ready axes on the planet.
The Jackson Soloist has long been considered the quintessential guitar for every hue of metal, shred and hard rock. This take on the timeless model is one of the most precise instruments I've ever played. The build quality becomes obvious before you even play a note. Just picking up this guitar, I was struck by the exacting fretwork, the perfect neck feel and the symmetry of the whole design. It's comfortable, lightning fast and decked out with some killer electronics. The fretboard has an effortless and slinky feel. An extremely cozy neck heel makes for totally unrestricted upper register access. Plug this thing in, and you've got the perfect sound for heavy riffs and fast solos. The tone is crisp, articulate and rich, and no matter how much gain you throw on it, you won't loose that expressive edge. If you're looking for the best shred-ready guitar money can buy, you've found it. Easily one of the nicest axes in the shop.
Item Details This Jackson Custom Shop SL2Q sports an exhaustive list of top-shelf features put together with superior craftsmanship. The body is alder, and it has a gorgeous quilted maple top with a transparent red finish. Be sure to check out the photos - this one is a real looker. The quartersawn maple neck measures .790" at the 3rd fret and .850" at the 12th. It's been given an oil finish, so the feel is smooth and natural. There are 24 jumbo frets on a bound ebony fretboard with a 12" to 16" compound radius. This axe plays exceptionally well - you'll feel like you've been spending hours with a metronome in the first five minutes. Electronically, you'll find a Seymour Duncan TB4 in the bridge and a Seymour Duncan SH-1 in the neck. This is a perfect pairing for rich, heavy sounds that take distortion well but never lose musicality and articulation. With the Floyd Rose bridge, you can abuse the strings and dive bomb all you want, and the axe snaps right back into tune. The reverse matching headstock with locking Gotoh tuners tops off the whole package.
This is a lifetime guitar, easily the last axe you'll ever need to buy for heavy styles. If you're interested, get in touch - we'd love to chat more about this one!
