Arp Quadra analog string poly synth with VCOs and VCF and these are somewhat rare as I believe, only a small number of Quadras were manufactured in the timeframe, from 1979 until ARP Instruments demise in late 1981. The ARP Quadra synth in the poly and string sections is technically divide down polyphony, and more like an organ with unlimited polyphony across all 61 keys. The Arp Quadra has 61 keys and 4 sections- bass, lead, poly and strings and all 4 sections of this synth can be layered, the lead section is duo phonic (2 voice) and the bass section mono. This vintage Arp Quadra was extensively restored by Mike Metz at Thesis Audio in Wichita KS and this vintage Quadra is 100%. Mike Metz is one of the top vintage synth and electronics repair experts in the midwest USA, and he has over 40 years of experience doing this repair work since 1976. I have the service documentation showing specifics as to what restoration/repair work was done, as Mike spent almost 6 months bringing this old Arp Quadra back to life again. There are some programmed custom poly string sound patches in the presets on this vintage Quadra, however the Quadra did not have true memory in the way later 1980's poly synths did, as the presets just recalls the parameters of the last unchanged settings I believe. I bought this vintage Arp Quadra synth DOA on ebay last year, and this synth needed just about everything inside of it either rebuilt, restored or replaced new. All the numerous tantalum and electrolytic capacitors were replaced and the power supply rebuilt, and we were able to source most of the HTF original parts such as 1 of the 3 Reticon SAD512/16 pin BBD chips. Mike installed the rebuilt keyboard assembly with new key action bushings and a new touch sensor strip, and adjusted the key contacts and he also installed a replacement aftertouch sensor. The original Arp Quadra service manual came with this Quadra and that was used and referenced quite a lot during the extensive restoration, including during the detailed calibration/tuning procedures and the lead synth tuned up perfectly. The switching chips in the phaser section were replaced and this brought the phaser back to working, and also removed all the distortion and noise in the phaser circuit, as well as the switch/keyboard scanner chips for the poly section were replaced new. The lead module for the VCA was replaced, as well as the envelope chip and the lead section works 100%. The VCA amp chip for the strings section was replaced, and that leveled out the strings volume in the phaser. With the poly strings layered with the wonderful onboard phase shifter, this Quadra has an amazing strings sound which is simply alive, organic and flat out killer sounding. There was many hours of work involved over a few months restoring this old Arp Quadra, and the original service work documentation from Thesis Audio is included with the sale. We tried to source a new replacement membrane control top for this vintage Arp Quadra but after a through search online, we could not find anyone currently making replacement membrane tops for the Quadra synth. Mike did restore every single membrane contact switch and associated LED, and all the sliders as well in the membrane control top and they all work 100% This Arp Quadra is in very good condition overall considering this synth is close to 40 years old. There is the one area pictured on the lower left control top of this Arp Quadra where the black outermost top covering or patina of the membrane top has worn through, this is just cosmetic in appearance and in no way affects the function of the controls in this area of the control top of the Quadra. There are no broken or missing controls or sliders and all controls function 100%, and there are no broken or chipped keys on this vintage Quadra. The original Arp Quadra service manual is included as well the original shipping box that housed the Quadra, however the box is in beat up and worn out condition from aging over the decades but it is included. Some folks say the Arp Quadra was just a glorified Arp Omni, and while there is an Omni section inside the Quadra, to say that its just an Omni is not exactly accurate, as the Quadra is obviously much more than just an Omni. This vintage 100% restored Arp Quadra String Synth will ship in a sturdy heavy duty ATA flight case with nice foam padding, and zip ties will be added to the butterfly latches of the case before shipping. Due to the age and fragile nature of vintage electronics item such as this Arp Quadra this item is SOLD AS IS, and NO RETURNS, and the sole responsibility of this item goes to the shipping carrier as soon as they pick up this item and it leaves my possession. Extra precautions with TLC will be made to securely and snugly pack this vintage Arp Quadra synth very solid, with some extra foam and or other pack materials to be added over the control top, and the well lets just say best described-- the unusual or asinine designed offset keys of the keybed of the Arp Quadra inside the flight case for secure s&h.
