Here’s something that you don’t see every day. This Stromberg Voisinet tenor guitar is really a force to be reckoned with. The Kay Musical Instrument Co., was known as Stromberg-Voisinet until 1931 when they changed the name, and this here is one of the cleanest examples of one you’re likely to ever see. It’s in excellent shape, especially considering it’s age, it sounds beautiful and plays like a breeze. It features a two-piece spruce top, potentially maple sides & back, and a mahogany neck, pearloid pickguard, and 22-7/8″ scale length. Internally it features ladder bracing on both the top and the back. It’s unique body shape really sets it apart, and the neck is also very interesting – overall it’s a very thick feeling neck yet the nut width is fairly small (1-5/32″), thus making a steep, round feeling neck profile that’s still very comfortable to play. The body is in outstanding condition and has very ornate purfling around the soundhole and edge of the top, along with having a bound top and back. Behind the bridge there’s also some intricate line/flower work painted on that’s holding up very well. It should be noted that there is some minor finish wear on the top primarily in the picking area, but is worth noting nonetheless. Also it appears that the pickguard that’s currently adhered to the top is non-original, but serves it’s purpose well. Overall this is an amazing instrument and for the right person it’s very easy to see it becoming an obsession before too long.
