Mike Morin Custom Guitar Preamp - Vintage and Very Rare - 1 of Only 18 Made

Up for sale is a very rare Mike Morin handwired, point-to-point preamp from the late 80s/early 90s. About 18 were made and they never come up for sale since most reside in the collections of professional artists and studios.

This preamp has a highly modded Marshall-inspired circuit with tons of available gain and EQ options. It flat out owns for crunchy modded Marshall and saturated high gain Soldano/Mesa Boogie tones.

Features a high-voltage, all-tube design (four 12AX7s) with quality parts that deliver the most head-like tone and feel you can get from a preamp. Anodized aluminum chassis, and chassis mounted pots, jacks and tube sockets round out the build quality of this preamp. Also features two push-pull pots (gain and preamp gain) for tone tweaking, a 2-way bright switch (up bright, down less bright), and a six position grind knob on the back for fine tuning the mid content.

The gain and pre-amp knobs function as interactive gain stages that allow you to dial in the exact gain and feel you need. When pulled, the pre-amp knob tightens the low-end and drops the distortion level. The gain knob increases clarity and lowers distortion when pulled.

Marc Diglio of XYZ played a Morin preamp on the album "HUNGRY" (this is not his actual preamp but the very same model). This is a vintage hot-rodded Marshall style, point-to-point preamp from the late 80s/early 90s. Mike's work is impeccable, and his amps have been used on many pro recordings (XYZ, Velvet Revolver, Linkin Park, Strapping Young Lad, Staind, Chris Poland, George Lynch ,to name a few). Simply put, this preamp is perfect for classic, hard rock and metal tones (without any boost being necessary). This is one of 18 Morin preamps in the world, and Mike has no plans to build any more, he hasn't made them in a very long time.

Control layout from left to right is Pre gain (push/Pull), Pre gain 2 (push/pull), bass, middle, treble, Preamp Volume. The mid select on the back gives you a huge range of Hi to low mids.

This preamp features push-pull pots on the gain, preamp volume (secondary gain) to greatly alter the sound. It can go from fat and smooth to tight and bright, and anywhere in between.

With both gain pots pulled, the preamp sounds like a stock vintage JCM 800 (but more refined). With the gain pot in and the preamp pot pulled, it sounds like a very tight but also incredible high gain modded Marshall. With both pots in, this preamp has more usable gain than anything on the market IMO.

This preamp also has a bright switch for adding extra bite and presence for rhythm, as well as a Mid/frequency knob on the back which changes the amount of midrange distortion and EQ.
