GE 12DW7/7247 tube - barely used - tests strong
Fits in a 12AX7 socket. Direct replacement for a 12AX7.
The 12DW7 is a hybrid tube, half 12AX7 and half 12AU7. It's a great tube for taming down an overly aggressive high-gain amp and sweetening the tone. Players with high gain amps who don't use all the available gain and find it fizzy/harsh will greatly benefit from a 12DW7. I've tried this in the V2 position of a Mesa Boogie Mark II. While there was still plenty of gain and sustain, the tone became more articulate, clear, and smooth.
Also a great tube in the V2 position of a 59 Bassman. The 12AX7 side will keep the gain stage strong while the 12AU7 side will work extremely well for the cathode follower.
Also a great tube if you want to tame the gain structure of one channel but retain the gain structure of the other channel. For example, the V2 position of a Fender Prosonic.
