This is my All-Star Fuzz pedal with a few premium upgrades from the standard version.  These include carbon composition resistors and Nichicon premium audio grade capacitors in the audio portion of the circuit.  This is a great sounding pedal and has a little something extra sweet sounding from the standard version.  I dare say that it rivals any commercial or boutique germanium fuzz pedal and for a very reasonable price.

Check out this video just posted to YouTube highlighting my All-Star Fuzz.  The video was done by the buyer of the first All-Star Fuzz pedal I sold on eBay back in March.  He did a fantastic job highlighting the versatility of the pedal.  Thanks Burjor!

The following comments are in reference to the standard version of this pedal but are also relevant to this premium upgraded version.

I've gotten many flattering and nice comments about the sound and quality of this pedal.  It is extremely gratifying to build pedals that so many buyers are enjoying.  Thanks all!

Recent feedback regarding my All-Star Fuzz pedal.

  • "Excellent seller and pedal builder! This fuzz is awesome!! The best of the best!"
  • "Bought on a whim, I now consider this pedal crucial. Thanks! Excellent work."
  • "Holy Crap, awesome! Excellent seller AAAAA"
  • "AWESOME PEDAL!! I could not be happier with how this pedal sounds!!"

The supply of germanium transistors that I use to build this pedal are drying up.  The type I use are integral to the sound of this pedal.  Get yours now!!!

This is a vintage sounding germanium fuzz face type fuzz.  It is not harsh or aggressive but rather thick and warm.

This pedal features several useful additions that allows the player the ability to adapt the pedal to different guitars and playing conditions.  This pedal was handcrafted by myself using  premium components on high quality veroboard construction.

At the heart of this pedal is a traditional fuzz face circuit.  Additions include a bias and a shade control.  It also features a voltage inverter to power the PNP germanium transistors using the typical negative ground power supply that runs the rest of your pedals.  There is also reverse polarity protection to protect the circuit in case you use a power supply of the wrong polarity.

The bias knob allows the user to perfectly tune in the bias for the smoothest sustaining fuzz or to intentionally misbias the transistors to a add a bit of a gravelly edge to the sound.    It also increases/decreases midrange content in the process.  The bias control isn't a more = better type control but rather is used to set the bias voltage of the transistors.  This point will be at some middle location in the sweep of the knob.  The pair of transistors I used for this particular build sound very good throughout a large range of the bias pot.

The shade control allows the user to alter the input frequencies being sent to the first transistor.  There is a large and useful range here that allows the user to compensate for different pickup types.  Excessive mushiness can be removed from humbuckers and excessive brightness can be removed from single coils.  It can be used to significantly fatten up single coils.  It is loads more useful than a typical tone control.   Increasing the bass content (counterclockwise) increases the ferocity of the fuzz.

The fuzz pot features a reverse log taper which allows finer control over the fuzz - i.e. the best sounds aren't crammed into the last 5% of the rotation.

This build features a pair of hand selected NOS PNP germanium transistors made in the former Soviet Union.  The pair I selected  are within the traditional gain buckets for fuzz face transistors.  I really like the way this fuzz sounds, very thick and warm with lots of sustain.   Rolling back the volume control reigns the fuzz in to overdrive territory, but this will vary with your pickup type.

The enclosure is uniquely hand  finished..  Lettering is hand painted.  There will be imperfections.

I use high quality components for my builds including Alpha stomp switch, Neutrik jacks, Hammond enclosures, Dale metal film resistors, Panasonic film capacitors, Nichicon audio grade electolytic capacitors,  TDK MLCC capacitors, and military spec wire.  It is true bypass.

The pedal can be powered using a 9 volt center negative DC adapter (the typical power supply for most pedals, examples include the Visual Sound One Spot and the Boss PSA adapters) or a nine volt battery.  Battery power is conserved by unplugging your cable from the input jack.  Do not use a power supply greater than 9 volts.  The voltage inverter chip will be damaged.

I am an experienced DIYer (12+ years).  Credit is due to Joe Gagan and tagboardeffects.blogspot.com for providing ideas and inspiration.

The buyer has a 14 day return period to run the pedal through its paces to make sure they are happy with it.  I will also provide assistance if the user should ever experience problems with the pedal in the future.  I will not be held responsible for misuse or abuse, including the use of incompatible power supplies.  Proceeds will help fund supplies for my obsessive DIY pedal building endeavors and guitar habits in general.  Thank you.
