I have something cool and unsual here for you today. This is a Warmoth bass ( body and neck). This one was owned by a Bay Area CA luthier who professionally reshaped the body. This actually started as a Jazz bass standard body. It is made out of sold Walnut and has a matching Walnut backplate to go with it. The neck is Wenge, and the fretboard is ebony. It has a black hipshot bridge, and EMG active pickups. also note i used a guitar body oil conditioner on it recently it really took well to that, i will upload some new pics soon. It looks even better after that. The wood looks more colorful.
It's a solid all around bass. Walnut has a thick deep sound. And with the added clarity of an Ebony board and EMG's this becomes a very powerful and articulate bass. Even the knobs are custom wood. Each controls the output of each pickup and they can be blended.
Conditionally it is in good used condition with some light swirling/wear on the body back. The frets are in good shape, and it is setup well by the previous owner. It plays great and i will have a youtube video of this one up soon to. One minor thing i noticed is the input jack seemed just a tad loose with one of my cables, it works cleanly, but if you tug on the cable gently it slips out. I played fine sitting down, but if it was a primary gigging bass you may want to address that. I believe there is a method that this can actually be tightened.
I have said it before and will now. A well built Warmoth is the best deal you are ever going to find in terms of tonewood quality and craftsmanship for your money. Take a look at what a custom made USA solid Walnut bass costs from a boutique builder? Add a back end zero to what this one costs. The only issue i have come across with Warmoth's is sometimes people do not wire them properly or set them up properly or make bad component choices. Definitely not here. The former owner of this was clearly talented. I love the way this shape feels. As for the exact specs like the radius and fret wire type. I do not know. Safe to say it's a sensible, well built instrument.
So that's the story on this one. This is a premium bass at an intermediate price, and i feel it will remain equitable as the more exotic woods and builds are becoming more sought after nowadays as tonewoods become more scarce and cookie cutter from the big brands.
I am included a decent Axcess brand soft case with this, and will ship it with the string detuned a bit and it will be well packed and fully insured as well.
Thank you for reading and considering!
