Selling a pair of mid 1950's Altec 165A tube microphone systems.
Both sets have brand new E&C power supplies and feature all new Nichicon Electrolytics, Polypropelene films, new bulbs, proper balanced AC input, improved rectifiers, and vintage Peerless 15095 transformers. We have found these to be an excellent vintage replacement transformer for these systems. The original 4665's have become extremely expensive, and really aren't the best option for this particular application. The level simply does not ever approach the threshold that would warrant the use of the 4665.
The microphones feature the excellent sounding 21D omni capsules- some of the finest American condensor capsules ever made. Microphone cables are in fantastic shape with no shorts or fraying- this is a big deal with these systems! Both mics have had the old finicky Cannon 6 pin connectors replaced with top notch Neutrik 6 pin XLRs.
These microphones with the 21D omni capsules excel at mic'ing almost anything- piano, guitars, banjos, mandolins- anything with strings, percussion, rooms, literally almost anything- they're special sounding capsules. With completely new supplies and new connectors, you'll have a pair of beautiful 1950's era American tube mics that'll sound great for years to come.
Sold AS-IS due to the vintage nature, but look at my feedback and rest assured.
