A must watch Yairi factory tour video link should be on this listing, this video has a part 2 as well! I watched this video years ago and fell in love with these incredible hand crafted in small numbers guitar's
This year was very unique because the year before came with hexagon inlay on the fret board similar to a martin 45 series.
Half-way through the 1980 model Yairi stopped the 45 style neck joint trim and the abalone style trim on the back and sides.
The 1981 model lost even more binding/trim if you look at the diamond fret board inlay on this 79' you'll notice it has white binding/trim around the abalone diamonds the 81' did not. What was once called the Super Abalone, the DY-90 in my opinion became very plain. Basically a D-35 back and sides with a 42 style front.
Another note is around 81 pretty much all the Yairi's including the DY-90 lost the Jacaranda/Brazilian Rosewood back and sides! Boo!
This guitar came with an original active under the saddle pickup, there are no controls but it does have a 9volt battery attached to the neck block.
The top to this beauty has some play wear around the sound hole from strumming with a pic, and there is some finish wear in this area, this guitar was played and also had the first five frets replaced. Several years ago there was a crack at the center seam below the bridge. It was actually about a millimeter next to it. It is barely noticeable unless you are looking for it. It is a very solid.
If you are looking at this guitar you more than likely know all about Kazuo Yairi and the fact that he has within the past few years has past away and is no longer with us. The Yairi factory is still open, but this sad fact has been making his guitars even more desirable than before, especially the vintage 1970's models.
Please look at all the pics as they are part of the description and the case in the pics is included.
Thanks for looking!
