Unlike most vacuum tube pedals by other manufacturers, the NuVision is high voltage and operates solely on vacuum tubes. There are no transistors in the audio circuitry of this pedal. The NuVision is a limited release instrument preamp pedal. It features a pair of new old stock nuvistor vacuum tubes and an interesting passive EQ circuit. Designed to run on a standard 9v DC adapter (300mA+), the pedal boosts the voltage internally to 200v to run the tubes at their ideal plate voltage for the big headroom and responsive feel of a tube amp. Designed, assembled, and hand wired by the good wizard himself.
​ Nuvistors were designed to be long-lasting, reliable, small, and efficient. The 12AX7 tube is designed to last for 10,000hrs, whereas a Nuvistor is designed to see no more than a 1% change in performance over a period of 10,000hrs. They last a long freaking time! To make their life even longer, I decided to set their filament voltages below the rated 6.3v. I found Nuvistors perform 100% fully with a filament voltage reduced to 4.5v, as used in this pedal. The reduced filament voltage has no effect on sound (other than slightly less noise), but does double the lifespan of the tubes.
