⚠️Fire Hazard dx7 safety cap replacement "For The Yamaha DX7" or "Dx9" original model 0.022uf capacitor

⚠️DX7/DX9 ORIGINAL PART "C1" (RIFA CAPACITOR) IS A FIRE HAZARD⚠️ ⚠️Replacing it with this new 0.022uF X2 Rated 15mm spaced Safety Capacitor makes the synth safe again⚠️ YOU MUST replace this part if it is original ESPECIALLY if it is cracked, your power switch has ever acted "wrong" and DEFINITELY!!! if you have ever experienced the DX7 powering itself on while the switch is set to off!!!! It is a serious fire hazard which is well documented and well known.

This is a DIY kit for restoring a DX7 MK1's Power Supply board! These are perfect replacement parts, pre-selected for perfect fit and optimal performance, so you don't have to bother measuring parts removed from the DX7 and reading datasheets for days on end! NOTE: The color of the part you receive may vary from the photo, but the specifications of the part received will be 100% identical. This is only because we source identical parts from multiple brands due to availability.

This replaces the golden rectangle RIFA capacitor which is on your AC input board where the power cable comes in on the DX7 or DX9.
If you have not changed it, this new capacitor in place of C1 (a gold colored rectangle part which may very well be cracking apart when you check it!! the original part is a Fire Hazard and I do not recommend even plugging in the DX7 to the wall until it is replaced) - search online for "RIFA Capacitor Explosion"

We recommend having an experienced technician do this upgrade for you if you are not very comfortable with desoldering. This is not a good project for learning to solder. We have had lots of vintage gear pass through the shop and found a common failure point on these vintage switching power supplies is when one component fails, it will temporarily throw the power supply wildly out of range and it is very likely that other components will be damaged at that time. For this reason, it's highly recommended to do preventative maintenance with these new parts since it can save you from having to diagnose a non working power board later on.


PLEASE change this Safety Capacitor if it is original. It is a serious and real fire hazard EVEN if the DX7 is switched "off" but plugged in. In fact if you do not intend to buy it from me, send a message and I will tell you what part you need. I am selling them very cheap to make these available to DX7 and DX9 owners and to spread awareness of the potential serious fire hazard of the original part.
See the 2nd picture of the listing - you just need to remove a couple screws to lift the "hood" of the DX7 or DX9 to check if the bad gold colored RIFA is there by the power cable inlet.

The capacitors included in this kit replace ONLY the three wide 0.1uf capacitors shown in the second picture, there are three on the original DX7 and DX9 power supply. IF YOU DO NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH DESOLDERING, A LOCAL ELECTRONICS REPAIR TECH, HAM RADIO ENTHUSIAST GROUP OR HACKERSPACE CAN LIKELY BE HIRED FOR THIS SORT OF WORK. A SUCCESSFUL INSTALL IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE BUYER. THIS KIT IS SOLD "AS-IS" AND WITH THE EXPECTATION THE BUYER IS PREPARED FOR THE SORT OF WORK THIS UPGRADE ENTAILS.
TO BREAK IN THE NEW POWER SUPPLY AFTER INSTALLING, PLEASE LEAVE THE UNIT RUNNING WITHOUT INTERRUPTING THE POWER FOR AT LEAST 4 HOURS AFTER REPLACING THE CAPACITORS.
