Vintage Polaris Hollowbody Guitar
- Based upon other comparable listings that I was able to find online, I think this is a Polaris guitar, but I can't find any brand name anywhere on it. If you happen to know anything more about this guitar that I could add to the listing, please message me & let me know. :)
- All-Original
- Made in Japan
- 1960s
- Tobacco sunburst finish with very nice "flame" on the back of the body & the headstock
- Hollowbody
- Bigsby-style vibrato bar/tailpiece & roller bridge
- Nice two-piece neck with rosewood fretboard, nice tight binding all the way around, & truss rod with metal cover plate.
-
It's just had a complete professional set-up--restrung with new .010s, frets polished, fretboard cleaned & oiled, pickups & bridge heights adjusted, floating bridge placement, intonation set, etc.
- Here are the positives:
- It's in very good condition, esp. for a vintage guitar; it plays really well & has plenty of adjustability to suit different preferences (unusual for most vintage guitars like this).
- There is fret wear, as you'd expect on a guitar of this age, but the frets still have plenty of life left on them (see photos); the action is really nice as it is now, & there's lots of room to raise it or lower it as desired.
- The switches work fine.
- The bridge mute bar works (see photo #20).
- The neck is straight & feels great.
- The tuners work very smoothly.
- & here are the negatives:
- It has electronics issues & you should assume that the bridge pickup is non-functioning
- The neck pickup measures 4.3 ohms (which is low but usable) & sounds really nice
- The bridge pickup only measures just over 1 ohm & the output is so low that I can't even hear it over the acoustic sound of the guitar even with the amp turned way up, so I'm guessing it needs to be repaired in some way.
- The tone which should be for the bridge pickup seems to be wired for the neck pickup, although the difference it makes is barely even discernable anyway.
- The input jack is scratchy.
- It has plenty of normal cosmetic wear, as you'd expect on a guitar of this age, most of which can be seen in the photos.
- It has electronics issues & you should assume that the bridge pickup is non-functioning
Please look carefully at all of the photos and feel free to contact me with any questions before buying. In addition to my 100% 5-star feedback rating here on reverb.com, I also have a 20+ year, 100% positive feedback rating on eBay (from well over 1000 ratings--user name "scedro").
Note:
The set-up on any guitar is subjective & a matter of personal taste, which of course varies for every player. While each instrument I sell is professionally set-up prior to being listed on Reverb, that set-up may not be exactly to your particular taste "right out of the box" & (as with any instrument that you buy anywhere) you should expect to possibly make adjustments to the action, string gauges, etc. to suit your exact tastes.
